of fireflies, stars and lightning storms...

OF FIREFLIES... Fireflies are fascinating...and have captured every moment of my wonder, almost every night here in Tennessee. They are magical and they are ashamedly unaware of their brilliance. Bioluminescence is their way of they reproduce, how they ward off predators...all the while, never realizing how beautiful they are to the human eye that catches their light in flight. What they mean to do as a habit if you will, creates a smile and a joy, even if just for a brief moment in time. It's like nothing I have ever seen. Little flashes of light surrounding a mature tree, finding it's way to the core where it rests, then takes flight after just a moment of touchdown to go and greet the bush nearby. A fireflies light is always on the move, as if looking for who would best benefit from the luminescence next. Every time my eye cathes sight of a firefly, I am always reminded, without fail, that I too have a light...the light of the World living in me, and that I too, should be glowing, through my life's actions, so that all who see me, see the Light of the hope living in me. "You are the light of the world...Let your light so shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:14a, 16 OF STARS... My favorite thing to do in the whole world has always been to lay on my back and look up at the night sky. There is something about stars that fascinate me and have my whole life. Maybe it is the way that they seem to be just a pinhole visible in the vast seas of darkness, millions of miles away. It's beauty is there for anyone to see. Or Maybe it is the way that only those who care to look up get to experience it's beauty. No one who ever does not appreciate them, never gazes on them. And oddly enough, they hide well, only coming out when most are asleep so that only those who really desire to soak in their beauty, can. I have always thought stars to be the luckiest part of God's creation for this very reason. To have only those who really care, pay attention to me, and to be invisible during the day so as not to worry about the demands of this world. Oh how glorious indeed! "God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night. He made the stars also." Genesis 1:16 OF LIGHTNING.... Lightning Storms are FIERCE here. They come unexpectedly, and leave just as fast. They are majestic, and like nothing I have ever experienced. The trees start to sway, the leaves turn over as if to scream a warning that it's coming...then it hits. The lightning flashes are the most glorious thing I have ever seen...stretching across the sky, lighting up the darkness for many seconds. While everyone goes in to hiding, I am standing at my window, with my mouth wide open, hoping that I will see just one more flash. It never gets old. Maybe because the lightning is never the same form, but the light is always the same. It never changes...the whole sky is always lit's consistent, but the form of delivery changes with each storm. I suppose I wish to have that characteristic too...I want my light to be consistent, but never complacent, never showing itself in the same way to all people, but in a way that all see the same light. "Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thundering of His pavilion?...He covers His hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark. Its noise declares His presence." Job 36:29, 32
